Acai Berry Diet Superfoods?
If you have ever looked for a food or fruit that is supposed to aid weight loss you have undoubtedly come across the Acai Berry. Let’s look at where it has come from. The reason it’s called an Acai berry is because it comes from a Acai palm, botanically known as Euterpe oleracea. This species is native to Central and South America and is most commonly found in the swamps and flood plains. The berry is a small black purple berry that is round, similar to a grape but with less pulp. The Global demand for the fruit over the last 10 years has increased dramatically. The Acai berry diet aims to use the berries natural ingredients to cleanse the body. This then should help aid weight loss and increase overall wellbeing.
Ok so it looks again like yet another magical fruit, similar to the Goji Berry, what are people claiming the science to be behind the amazing weight loss results?
People have claimed that by introducing Acai berries into your diet they were able to lose hundreds of pounds over a few months. If you have read any of my previous posts you will know this is rubbish. You can’t just begin losing weight by ADDING foods to your diet. They say this is down to the Acai’s natural level of fibres and antioxidants. Yes antioxidants and fruit are good for you but they are unlikely to cause this amount of weight loss so lets have a look at some research.
I will paraphrase what I have found, obviously typing Acai berries into google is going to give you a host of people saying here is lots of amazing things Acai berries then advising you to buy them through this link. So I had to go a little deeper than that, I found that they do in fact have a high antioxidant count which does help subdue free radicals within the body. Not proven but thought to reduce the risk of cancers.
The acai berry diet flawed?
They also contain fibre which does help the digestive system relieving people of ingestion and constipation etc. This has been known for years that fibre has this effect however Acai Berries are marketed to cleanse the bowl and colon. Again there is no proof of this. There is also no proof to the claims that is can cure diabetes or any other chronic illness.
A lot of researchers have commented it is being sold as a super food yet little is known about the full effects Acai berries can have. A claim on some websites is that the Acai berry diet can cure erectile dysfunction, with not a single scientific study backing up these claims. A lot can be said about the possible placebo effect of this pill. Have a look at this video this guy has done on it.
I think this must have something to do with the ‘feel good’ effect people get after consuming them.
So if your looking for a good healthy berry to eat then eat some Acai Berries, if your looking for miraculous weight loss well the odds are stacked against it but why not try it for yourself? Please tell me is the Acai berry diet has worked for you.
